Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Collegiate Club: Igniting Innovation at MACE

The automotive and mobility sectors are rapidly evolving, driven by technological advancements and sustainable practices. The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), a global professional organization, stands at the forefront of this evolution, dedicated to advancing mobility engineering worldwide. SAE International provides a vast network for technical excellence, while SAEINDIA specifically nurtures the next generation of mobility engineers within India.

SAE MACE, the student chapter at Mar Athanasius College of Engineering, is a vibrant extension of this mission. Established in 2014, SAE MACE offers students a dynamic platform to apply engineering concepts by designing and building innovative vehicles such as electric bikes, ATVs, go-karts, and UAVs. The club fosters technical excellence, teamwork, and innovation, preparing members to be future leaders in the mobility sector.

Driving Excellence: Achievements and Impact

SAE MACE’s journey has been marked by remarkable achievements and consistent innovation since its inception. Starting with top rankings in electric vehicle and tractor design, the club quickly established a strong national presence. Key milestones include clinching AIR 1 in TDC 2020 and debuting competitive teams in ATV, e-BAJA, and aero challenges in 2021.

By 2024, SAE MACE celebrated a decade of engineering excellence, culminating in a historic national victory at FKDC 2025, where Team Inferno secured All India Rank (AIR) 1 with their cutting-edge kart design. Our teams consistently excel in national competitions:

  • eBaja 2025:Team Influx achieved 2nd in Design and CAE Evaluation and 3rd in Endurance
  • hBaja 2025:Team Falcons, in their debut, secured an impressive Overall AIR 10 nationally, along with top ranks in Sales (AIR 7), Cost (AIR 9), Design (AIR 10), and Technical Inspection (AIR 12).
Drone Development Challenge (DDC) 2024

Team Valhalla achieved AIR 25 (Micro Class) and AIR 30 (Regular Class), along with Kerala Rank 4 in both, showcasing prowess in UAV innovation.

Beyond competition wins, SAE MACE significantly impacts its members by developing practical skills, fostering teamwork and leadership, enhancing industry readiness, and cultivating a spirit of innovation.

Engaging Activities: A Hub of Learning and Collaboration

SAE MACE organizes a diverse range of events designed to enhance technical knowledge and professional development. Our recent 10th Year Anniversary Celebrations (February 26-28, 2025) were a highlight, featuring:

  • A Motorsport & Automobile Workshop with industry experts and inspiration from Mira Erda, India’s first female Formula 4 racer.
  • The “Fold & Roll” challenge, promoting creative miniature automobile design.
  • An Inauguration Ceremony with Sreekanth S, Design Engineering Manager at Boeing India, as Chief Guest, alongside RoboSoccer, TYREX Autoquiz, and an Expo showcasing projects from various institutions, an Automobile Expo, and a Mercedes-Benz EV Workshop

Other key activities include IGNITE 25, combining SolidWorks workshops and auto quizzes; participation in Takshak ’24 Autoquiz; attendance at the National SAE Convention for industry insights and networking; and Teacher’s Day celebrations to honor our faculty.
