The Department of Computer Applications recently concluded a five-day workshop titled ‘Cloud Computing – Basics to Virtual Machines’ for its third semester students of the 2024-26 batch. A total of 57 students participated in the comprehensive program, which ran from August 28 to August 31, 2025, following an inaugural session on August 23. The workshop was designed to provide students with practical experience in the essential concepts of cloud technology.
The workshop was led by experts from the GYAAN Innovation Lab at IIIT Kottayam:
Mr. Paul Baiju (AWS Architect) and Mr. Gokul Krishnan (Project Management Expert). Their combined knowledge offered students a well-rounded perspective, from the foundational technical aspects of cloud infrastructure to the strategic planning necessary for successful project execution in the cloud.
Participants of the workshop engaged in intensive hands-on sessions covering a wide range of in-demand topics, including: working with AWS, learning to provision and manage virtual machines and handle data efficiently in the cloud, Security and Access Management, practicing the principles of Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment to automate the software delivery lifecycle, exploring the use of containerization technologies to streamline application deployment and completing the full cycle of deploying a web application from a development environment to a cloud-hosted server.
This initiative by the Department of Computer Applications at MACE is part of its commitment to bridge the gap between academic theory and industry practice. The workshop’s focus on practical application is expected to provide the students with a competitive edge as they prepare for careers in the rapidly evolving cloud technology sector.
The department celebrated the beginning of a new academic journey for its 2025-27 batch with a class commencement programme. The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Rajeev Srinivas, Head of the Academic Alliances Group at TCS.
The Department of Computer Applications is delighted to highlight the impactful participation of our 2023-25 MCA batch students in the "Digi Kerala" digital literacy program. Collaborating with the Pothanicad Grama Panchayat, our students utilized their expertise to spread digital awareness and facilitate access to e-governance services, making a tangible difference in fostering a more digitally literate society.
Our department hosted a pivotal talk on Mental Health and Stress Management on February 25, 2025. Dr. Bins George, Consultant Clinical Psychologist at MBMM Hospital, led the session, offering a scientific perspective on stress, differentiating between eustress and distress, and explaining its impact on well-being, including neurobiological effects. He stressed the importance of sleep hygiene for emotional resilience and shared practical stress management strategies, such as mindfulness and cognitive restructuring. The insightful session, well-received by attendees, underscored the vital need for proactive mental health awareness.
