The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at Mar Athanasius College of Engineering has been a prominent academic division for four decades. The department’s state-of-the-art facilities, including specialized PCB fabrication facility, VLSI and Embedded Systems Laboratory, Underwater Acoustic Communication Laboratory and Advanced Communication Laboratory provide students with hands-on experience in cutting-edge technology in embedded system designing and communication engineering. Under the guidance of faculty members from prestigious institutions like IITs and IISc, students explore diverse fields ranging from consumer electronics and telecommunications to industrial control systems and medical electronics. The department’s Research and Consultancy Centre supports advanced research initiatives, including Ph.D. programs and industry-sponsored projects. The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at Mar Athanasius College of Engineering has established itself as a leading academic division, offering comprehensive programs aligned with advancements in the electronics industry. With the field of electronics evolving rapidly since its inception in the 20th century, the Department ensures students gain the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in this dynamic domain.

The Department offers a B.Tech programme with an intake of 120 students and an M.Tech programme in VLSI and Embedded Systems with 24 seats. These programs cover a diverse range of applications across industries such as Consumer Electronics, Telecommunication, Industrial Control, Medical Electronics, and Internet Technology. The curriculum includes key subjects such as Embedded Systems, Electronic Circuit Design, VLSI, Digital Signal Processing, Analog and Digital Communication, Microwave Engineering, Antenna Theory, and Biomedical Engineering.

To facilitate practical learning and research, the Department is equipped with state-of-the-art fabrication and testing facilities. A dedicated Research and Consultancy Centre supports Ph.D. scholars in their scientific and technological research pursuits. The Department also features an Idea Workshop, a creative space designed to encourage innovation and hands-on learning. Here, students can work on simple projects, develop prototypes, and fabricate 3D models using modern 3D printing technology. This fosters a strong foundation in practical engineering concepts and design thinking.

The Electronics and Communication Association actively organizes seminars, workshops, and industrial training programs to keep students updated with the latest technological trends. Furthermore, the college’s Training and Placement Cell plays a crucial role in securing career opportunities for graduates, with students being placed in leading global companies such as IBM, Intel, Bosch, Siemens, Broadcom, Philips, Wipro, TCS, Infosys, Honeywell, Accenture, Huawei, Cognizant, IBS, and Quest Global.
