HOLISTIC ENVIRONMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY: A CAMPUS INITIATIVE
Sustainable Campus Initiatives :
Environment-friendly and sustainable modes of construction practices are adopted.
Spread over an area of 27 hectares without disturbing the terrain profile, the campus includes a botanical garden with rich flora and fauna.
Striving for a pollution-free campus, we have restricted entry of public and student vehicles into the campus. Parking is provided outside the campus. This also ensures a noise-free campus for effective learning.
Several lush green areas provide a soothing environment for the students.
Students are undertaking organic cultivation of seasonal vegetables and fruits to cater to the needs of mess and hostels.
Taking advantage of the wide variety of flowers in the campus, beekeeping is also adopted by students and staff members.

Energy Management initiatives :
Usage of solar panels of 200 kW capacity.
LED bulbs, Inverter ACs, BLDC fans, etc., are promoted to reduce the carbon footprint.
We undergo energy audits to better monitor electricity consumption.
Waste Management
Crushed concrete cubes from Civil Engineering labs are re-used for construction activities.
Plastic flux banners, plastic glasses, and carry bags are banned inside the campus.
Organic waste is converted into bio-fuels in hostels through two biogas plants with a total capacity of 250kg/day.
Sewage Treatment Plants (STP), having a capacity of 100m3 per day is operating in men’s hostel and the treated water is used for recycled applications.
Water Management
A wide network of ponds, tanks, and bunds cater to the needs of the institution.
Emphasize is given for conserving water by recycling wastewater from STP and is used for gardening and cricket pitch wetting.
Student Initiatives
E-Waste collection.
Plastic-free initiatives - Cloth bags, Paper seed pens distribution to the general public in Kothamangalam municipality.
Plogging - a drive to promote health and waste collection simultaneously.
Waterbody cleaning - cleaning the nearby river Kuruvithode.
‘Punarjani’ - Public Cleaning activities - Cleaning and beautifying public places like nearby school campuses, hospitals, bus stands, parks, etc.
'Sparsham' initiative - Donating medical equipment like wheelchairs, stretchers, etc.
Campus Cleaning Drives on special occasions like Gandhi Jayanthi, Independence Day, etc.
'Visha Rahitha Vishu' - initiative to provide pesticide-free vegetables and fruits.
Street plays bring awareness about Climate Issues, Social stigmas, Gender Equity, etc.
Solar-powered battery chargers, e-Karts to the public.
Blood donation camps are conducted yearly to support the Ernakulam District Blood Bank in association with IMA.
A helping hand during Kerala Floods (2018, 2019)
Provided technical support - ensuring the safety of buildings, first-hand evaluation of flooded automobiles, re-installation of electrical systems, and maintenance of computer facilities in various offices.
Mobilized basic amenities like food and clothing to the affected public in various parts of Kerala like Wayanad, Nilambur, Malappuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kuttampuzha, Adimali, Valiyelchal, Manikandanchal.
Started a massive relief camp on the campus with the support of local government and people.
Faculties contributed a portion of their salary to the CMDRF and ensured contribution to the state-wide flood relief works.
Ockhi cyclone - Disaster relief camps were set up in association with the disaster management team in Ernakulam to help the flood victims and provide them with food and dress.
Covid Awareness Initiatives
In a situation when many misunderstandings are being spread about the covid vaccine, orientation sessions were arranged for the volunteers and teachers, handled by Govt. medical college doctors.
Guiding students regarding the precautions they must take to remain safe during the pandemic days, the college organised online Yoga sessions and safe hygiene measures were explained in detail.
